The thing about New York is (and this is coming from a Londoner) everything really does seems bigger, brighter, better (but definitely not cleaner).
It’s hard not to love it when you’re surrounded by awesome food and places to pop in for a cocktail or two and I guess the big difference with London (esp. in Manhattan) is that everything is so close together a which means literally every corner you turn presents another option for fun and frolics.
These pics I took sum it up for me:
The Chrysler building – beautiful from any angle. I was lucky enough to be approaching it one day when workers were using a funnel to let of steam from (I assume) the subway. Steam seems to follow you everywhere as it gushes up from below, emitting its nasty stench (kind of sewage mixed with a carbon monoxide metallic tint).
A cup of Joe – this take-away cup is the defacto corner store stand by and has been for many years. This coffee happened to come from one of the better artisan brewers in the lower east side (don’t ask me the name – they’re far too hip to adorn the shop with a sign). I ordered drip (filter basically) cos’ I’d seen the locals doing so when I was in San Fran.
Noodles – the Dumpling House on Eldrige, China Town – awesome, chewy dumplings, 4 for a dollar and a snarly stare from the till thrown in. Just don’t go twice in two days – you’ll ruin the effect…
